We'll show you how to get started with your FREE Help Scout account. As soon as you get started, you will be on the “Plus” plan. We will also show you how to downgrade to the “Standard” plan (which is suitable for most accounts), and how to add a payment method.

In this tutorial we’re going to go show you how to sign up for your FREE Help Scout account, how to downgrade to the Help Scout “Standard” plan and how to add a Payment Method.


When you first sign up for Help Scout, you will be placed on the Plus Plan. However, for most businesses the Standard Plan is perfectly fine, and can save you some money.

Here’s what comes with the “Standard” plan:

  • 2 Mailboxes (Additional Mailboxes are $10 each per month)
  • 1 Docs site (Additional Docs sites are $20 each per month)
  • Up to 25 users
  • Live chat
  • In-app messaging (See Pricing)
  • Beacon help widget

  • Automated workflows (Set up rules to filter emails and automate actions)
  • Customer properties (Enrich customer profiles with custom attributes)

After you click on our link, follow these instructions to sign up for your free account…

  1. Click on “Try for free” button.
  2. Complete the sign up form (include your telephone number).
  3. MAKE SURE THE PROMO CODE “referral50off2022” IS VISIBLE on the sign up form.
  4. Click “Get Your Account” button.
  5. Complete the Captcha.
  6. Fill out the “Tell us about yourself” information.
  7. Create a Help Scout Mailbox
    • Name your “Help Scout Subdomain” (you can change this later).
    • Name your Mailbox (you can change this later).
    • Name your “Mailbox Email Address” (you can change this later).
  8. Click “Set Up Mailbox” button.
  9. Click “Explore Mailbox” to visit your Mailbox.

You have now completed the sign up process.


When starting your free trial, you will be placed on the “Plus” plan. However, for most companies the “Standard” plan is just right.

Here’s a walk through on how you can quickly downgrade to the “Standard” plan.

  1. Click on your Profile Icon (top-right).
  2. Select “Your Plan” from the drop-down.
  3. Click on “Plans” from the left-side menu.
  4. Click on “Downgrade to Standard” button.
  5. Click on “Downgrade Plan” button.
  6. You will now be on the Standard plan.


Here’s how you can add your payment method so that your active Help Scout account can continue after your trial is over.

  1. Click on your Profile Icon (top-right).
  2. Select “Your Plan” from the drop-down.
  3. Click “Add a payment method” button.
  4. “Please choose a billing frequency for Help Scout Standard” (Select “Monthly” or “Annually” billing).
  5. Enter your “Payment Information”.
  6. Click “Add payment method” button.


As you can see, getting you free Help Scout account is super easy, and we know you’re going to love it!
